September 8, 2017 (Phoenix) - Narrowly avoiding a sweep was too stressful for the Padres, so they decided to take a trip to Arizona for the weekend to play the second place Diamondbacks.  Great idea!  Jordan Lyles started tonight’s game one against Patrick Corbin for the Dbacks.

The Padres scored most of their runs in increments of two tonight and they did it all in the fourth inning and it helped.  Lyles scored the first two with a single, Manuel Margot drove in two more with a triple and Jose Pirela added a two-RBI single to give the Padres a six-run fourth inning and a 6-0 lead.

Yangervis Solarte added one more run in the fifth with a double that scored Wil Myers.  Solarte then scored on a fielder's choice to give the Padres an 8-0 lead.

Ray Fuentes finally put the Dbacks on the board with a two-run homer in the home half of the fifth to make it 8-2 Padres.

Jake Lamb doubled in the sixth to score Ketel Marte and the Dbacks crept closer with J.D. Martinez’s two-run homer.  Brandon Drury doubled to score Daniel Descalso, but the Padres were able to stop the bleeding and keep an 8-6 lead.

Margot added the insurance the Padres needed to win in the seventh with a single that scored Jabari Blash and Erick Aybar and give the Padres the 10-6 win to start the series off right.

Game two is tomorrow night at 5:10 p.m.  Jhoulys Chacin starts against Zack Godley for the Dbacks.
