April 16, 2017 (Atlanta) - Happy Easter!  Will the Easter Bunny bless the Padres?  Let’s find out with Trevor Cahill on the mound for San Diego against the legendary Bartolo Colon for the Braves!

Once again, like a mirror image of the past two games, the Padres tallied first in the second on Ryan Schimpf’s solo homer to lead 1-0.

And, like the past two games, the Braves erased that lead.  Tyler Flowers singled in the fifth to score Brandon Phillips and Adonis Garcia to give Atlanta a 2-1 lead.

Phillips worked some two-out magic in the sixth with a single that scored two and the Braves led 4-1, kicking Cahill out of the game.

When Miguel Diaz balked in the seventh, Anthony Recker scored to increase the Braves’ lead to 5-1.  Ender Inciarte homered and the lead was 6-1.

The Padres mounted a small rally in the eighth when reliever Ian Krol walked Erick Aybar on a wild pitch, causing Schimpf to come home and the score to be 6-2, but that was all the rallying they'd do.

The Braves tallied again in their half of the eighth with Nick Markakis’ double that scored Freddie Freeman to go up 7-2.  Phillips singled to score Markakis and the Braves led 8-2.  Christian Bethancourt came in to pitch and gave up an RBI single to Johan Camargo, a pinch hitter who's only played two games and gone 0-for-2 (just for perspective) to give the Braves a 9-2 lead, the win and the series.

The Padres get one more chance against these Braves tomorrow at 4:35 p.m.  Jered Weaver starts for the Padres against Jaime Garcia for the Braves.

Transaction news:

  • Trevor Cahill reinstated from 10-day DL
  • Kevin Quackenbush optioned to AAA
