August 17, 2018 (San Diego) - The Padres came back to the NL West tonight with a four-game series against the Diamondbacks.  Clay Buchholz started for Arizona against new Padre Jacob Nix.

The Diamondbacks didn’t waste any time.  Two men got on base in the first and David Peralta blasted a three-run homer just over the wall in center.  Alex Avila added two more with a liner down the left field line.  Nix was kicked out of the game after hitting a batter; he didn’t even get through the first inning.  Kazuhisa Makita came in and got the Padres out of the inning, but they still trailed 5-0.
Hunter Renfroe tried to save the day with a home run just over the center field wall in the eighth, but it was too late and the Padres lost game one 5-1.
Tomorrow’s game two is at 7:10 p.m.  Robbie Ray starts for Arizona against Joey Lucchesi.
