March 13, 2023 (Peoria, Ariz.) - The Padres are back in Peoria today hosting the Giants.  Old friend Sean Manaea started for San Francisco against Brent Honeywell.

The Giants commanded this game.  Thairo Estrada launched a two-run homer in the first, but Tim Lopes hit a two-RBI single in the second to tie the game at two after two.

Austin Wynns reclaimed the lead for the Giants in the third with a solo homer.  Casey Schmitt did the same thing in the fifth and LaMonte Wade Jr. hit a single that scored Bryce Johnson.  Blake Sabol hit a sac fly that scored Wynns.  In the home half of the fifth, Fernando Tatis Jr. singled to score Lopes and Jake Cronenworth singled to score Trent Grisham.  The Giants led 6-4 after five.

Schmitt tripled in the sixth to score Isan Diaz.  Johnson doubled to score Schmitt.  Wade Jr. hit a sac fly to score Johnson and the Giants led 9-4 after six.

Taylor Kohlwey singled in the sixth to score Marcos Castanon and the Giants still led 9-5 after six.

Michael Conforto kept the Giants ahead with a solo homer in the seventh, but Luis Liberato kept the Padres in it by grounding into a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the seventh and Castanon grounded into a double play that scored Korry Howell and the Giants led 10-7 after seven.

Johnson extended the lead by scoring in the eighth, but Pedro Severino hit a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth. Alfonso Rivas scored on a errant pickoff throw to first, but the Giants stopped the rally there and won 11-9.
