March 2, 2023 (Peoria, Ariz.) - The Padres continue their rickety spring as the away team in their home facility against the Mariners. Seth Lugo started against Logan Gilbert for Seattle.
Nelson Cruz is really coming into his own as a Padre and in the first, he singled to score Fernando Tatis Jr. and the Padres led 1-0 after one.
New Padre Rougned Odor scored in the second. Juan Soto singled to score David Dahl. The Mariners got on the board in the home half with Eugenio Suarez’s solo homer, but the Padres still led 3-1 after two.
The Mariners crept closer in the fourth with a single by Brian O’Keefe that scored Cal Raleigh. The Padres still led 3-2 after four.
Pedro Severina singled in the eighth to score Jantzen Witte, but after that, the Mariners stormed back. Cooper Hummel hit a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth and Leonardo Rivas scored on a wild pitch and we were tied at four after eight.
The comeback paid off for Seattle in the ninth with a walk-off double by Alberto Rodríguez that scored Kaden Polcovich and the Mariners walked off the Padres 5-4.
