August 17, 2017 (San Diego) - The Padres are riding high after a sweep of the Phillies, so they decided to try their luck against a tougher (think first-in-the-NL-East-with-a-71-47-record-and-one-of-the-best-teams-in-baseball tougher) NL East opponent, the Washington Nationals.  For four games.  Talk about over-confident.  Edwin Jackson starts for the Nats against Jhoulys Chacin.

As usual, the Padres gambled and lost.  Adam Lind hit a sac fly in the third to score Howie Kendrick and the Nats took a 1-0 lead.

Jose Pirela wasted no time in getting the Padres back to where they needed to be.  In their half the third, he tied it up with a single to left center that scored Manuel Margot.

It was a pitchers’ duel until the eighth inning when Ryan Zimmerman cracked the game open with a solo homer to right field and the Nationals cruised to a 2-1 win in game one.

It’s not often we have game two of a series on a Friday, but we’re having one tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m.  Nats ace Max Scherzer starts against Luis Perdomo.
