August 28, 2023 (St. Louis) - After getting swept in Milwaukee, the Padres tried their luck in St. Louis. Blake Snell started tonight’s game one against Adam Wainwright for the Cardinals.
The only run came on Matt Carpenter’s RBI single in the sixth that scored Fernando Tatis Jr. and Garrett Cooper did the same in the seventh and the Padres led 2-0 after seven.
Paul Goldschmidt hit a towering homer to left in the eighth and the Padres led 2-1 after eight.
Cooper added insurance with a two-RBI single in the ninth and the Padres finally took a series opener with a 4-1 win.

Game two is tomorrow at 4:45 p.m. Seth Lugo starts against Zack Thompson for the Redbirds.
