September 18, 2023 (San Diego) - The Padres are finally home after a (for once) successful road trip.  Now they host the Rockies for a few days. Denver native Ty Blach started for Colorado against Michael Wacha.

Brendan Rodgers singled in the second to score Elehuris Montero, Garrett Cooper gave the Padres the lead in the home half with a two-run shot and the Friars led 2-1 after two.

Ezequiel Tovar tied it for the Rockies in the third with a double to left to score Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Jones got the go-ahead with a single to center to score Tovar and the Rockies led 3-2 after three.

But Luis Campusano saved the day in the fourth with a three-run bomb and the Padres led 5-3 after four.

Eguy Rosario hit a solo homer in the sixth.  National League Player of the week Juan Soto singled to score Xander Bogaerts and kick Blach out of the game.  The Padres led 7-3 after four.

Rosario kept going.  In the fifth, he singled to center to score Matthew Batten.  Kris Bryant bobbled a catch that would’ve ended the inning at first, allowing Rosario to score and Fernando Tatis Jr. to single.  He stole a base, the throw from Elias Diaz behind the plate went into center, allowing Bogaerts to score.  Soto, who was at the plate, singled to right immediately after to score Tatis Jr. and the Padres led 11-3 after five.

Jones tried to keep the Rockies in it with a towering home run to right in the sixth.  With the bases loaded, Blackmon was hit by a pitch, allowing Diaz to score from third and the Padres still led 11-5 after six.

Brenton Doyle tripled in the eighth to score Rodgers.  Blackmon singled to center to score him and Diaz kept at it in the ninth with an RBI double.  Rodgers singled to center to score a run, but the Padres held on to win game one 11-9.
