June 21, 2017 (Chicago) - The Padres had the chance to avoid the sweep today in this morning’s (afternoon’s for them) finale against the Cubs.  Miguel Diaz started against Eddie Butler for the Cubs.

Things remained deadlocked for a few innings, then in the fourth, Ian Happ picked up where he left off last night with a two-run homer to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead.

Jose Pirela put the Padres on the board with a single to center that scored Craig Stammen to make the score 2-1.

Erick Aybar tied the game up in the sixth with a homer.  And for once, the Padres got the upper hand.  With the bases loaded in the eighth, Koji Uehara walked Luis Torrens and Wil Myers came home and the Padres managed to avoid the sweep and eek out a 3-2 win.  Despite the two losses, they take the season series against the Cubs.

The Padres get another Thursday off before coming home and inviting the Tigers to Petco for some weekend interleague action.  First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. Friday night.  Michael Fulmer takes the mound for Detroit against Dinelson Lamet.
