May 28, 2023 (New York) - The Padres and Yankees both vied for the series today.  Yu Darvish started against Gerrit Cole.

Jake Cronenworth smacked a solo homer off the ace to right in the first inning, but the Yanks can always count on Aaron Judge, who evened it up with a blast to left in the home half and we were tied at one after one.

In the second, the Padres got the best of Cole when Jose Azocar scored Ha-Seong Kim from second and got to score himself due to awful fielding from the Yankees and an inside-the-park home run gave the Padres a 3-1 lead after two.

Anthony Volpe brought the Yankees closer with a single in the third that scored Kyle Higashioka and who else but Judge tied up the game with a single to left to score Volpe.  The Yanks loaded the bases with no outs and Anthony Rizzo singled to score Gleyber Torres.  Judge scored.  Willie Calhoun lined a double to center that scored Harrison Bader and Darvish was done after 2.2 innings.  Drew Carlton came in and gave up an RBI single to Isaiah Kiner-Falefa that scored Calhoun.  Higashioka hit a double off the center field wall to score Kiner-Falefa.  The onslaught finally ended and the Yankees led 8-3 after three.

Rougned Odor helped a little bit in the seventh inning with a two-run homer against his old team to deep right.  Ha-Seong Kim scored on a fielder’s choice and the Yankees still led 8-6 after seven.

Bader sealed the win for New York with a solo homer in the eighth.  Higashioka singled to score Kiner-Falefa and the Yankees held off the Padres and took the series 10-7 after one more sac fly from the Padres.
