September 9, 2017 (Phoenix) - The Padres put on an offensive display last night in game one against Arizona, scoring six runs in the fourth to win 10-6.  Jhoulys Chacin started tonight’s game two against Zack Godley for the Dbacks.

After you read this recap, you’ll believe pigs can fly.  Arizona started off hot in the fifth with David Peralta’s single to center that scored two.  Paul Goldschmidt was the next to RBI single and score Peralta.  And finally, J.D. Martinez hit the hat trick single to cap off a four-run fifth by scoring Chris Ianetta and the snakes led 4-0.

They added on in the sixth with Daniel Descalso’s homer and Ianetta’s single for a 6-0 lead.

The Padres decided enough was enough in the seventh and began their rally with Wil Myers’ two-run homer to left center.  They’d take a break, but they weren’t done yet.

Arizona increased the deficit in the eighth with Peralta’s RBI single that scored Descalso for a 7-2 lead.

Well, that upset Myers again and he two-run homered in the ninth again.  Trailing by three runs.  Austin Hedges doubled to left to score Jabari Blash.  Two run deficit.  Erick Aybar singled to center to score Hedges.  One more run to go.  Now it was time for Carlos Asuaje to shine.  He singled to left with the bases loaded.  Like Harry Potter driving a horn through the basilisk’s skull (yes, ECM’s sportswriter is a Potterhead.  Grab your wand or join Voldemort), Asuaje drove a stake through the snakes’ heart with a dagger two-run RBI single and the Padres took game two and the series with an 8-7 win.

The rubber match is tomorrow at 1:10 p.m.  Luis Perdomo starts against Robbie Ray for the Dbacks.
