April 12, 2017 (Denver) - The series is even at 1-1, so the Padres had a chance to win it today with Zach Lee on the mound against Denver native--and Rockies fan from birth--Kyle Freeland.

Like yesterday, the Padres got started right away again.  The hero of this series, Wil Myers, doubled in the first and San Diego took a 1-0 lead.  Yan Solarte singled to score him and the Padres were quickly up 2-0.  Ryan Schimpf put the icing on the cake with a two-run homer and the Padres were catapulted to a 4-0 lead.

Hunter Renfroe added another in the fifth with a double that scored Myers and the Padres had another big inning on their hands, now up 5-0.  Schimpf hit a sac fly that scored Solarte and the Padres were up 6-0.  The Rockies started a rally in the ninth, but the Friars’ defense held strong and picked up the shutout win, 6-0 and the series, 2-1.

The Padres get a day off before traveling to the Braves’ new stadium in Atlanta.  First pitch on Friday is set for 4:35 p.m.  Jhoulys Chacin will start for the Padres against the Braves’ ace, Julio Teheran.

Transaction news:

  • Perdomo on 10-day DL (right shoulder inflammation) retro 4/9
  • Jake Esch recalled from AA
