ECM PADRES REPORT: PADRES TAKE SERIES IN THE DESERT

April 23, 2023 (Phoenix) - The Padres are winning the series with the Dbacks.  Today was a chance to take three out of four with Yu Darvish on the mound against Drey Jameson for Arizona.

The Padres got started right away in the first with bases loaded.  Jake Cronenworth hit a sac fly to left center to score Juan Soto.  Matt Carpenter lined a two-RBI double and the Padres led 3-0 after one.

 
Carpenter added on in the third with a sac fly to left to score Cronenworth and the Padres led 4-0 after three.
 
Evan Longoria put the Dbacks on the board in the fourth with a deep sac fly to right that scored Ketel Marte and the Padres led 4-1 after four.
 
Carpenter knocked out a solo homer in the fifth and the Padres led 5-1 after five.
 
Cronenworth blasted an RBI double to right center in the seventh that scored Xander Bogaerts.  Carpenter doubled to left to score Cronenworth.  Alek Thomas kicked off the bottom of the inning with a solo homer to deep right center.  Nick Ahmed followed suit with one to left, but the Padres still led 7-3 after seven.
 
Jake McCarthy hit a solo homer to deep right in the eighth and another run scored, but the Padres prevailed with a 7-5 win and series victory.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Padres finally get a day off tomorrow before heading to the Windy City for three games with the Cubs.  Game one on Tuesday is at 4:40 p.m. and will be MLB.tv’s free game of the day.  Blake Snell starts against Justin Steele for Chicago.
