July 23, 2017 (San Francisco) - The Padres slipped yesterday against the Giants in extra innings, but they still had the chance to take the series today with Dinelson Lamet on the mound against Ty Blach for the Giants.

Wil Myers started the Padres off on the right foot with a solo homer in the first to give them a 1-0 lead.

But Buster Posey countered in the Giants’ half of the first with a single that scored Denard Span to tie the game.

Jabari Blash solved that problem in a big way.  In the fourth, he doubled and drove two runs in.  Hector Sanchez drove him in with a double.  Cory Spangenberg helped out with an RBI single.  The Padres struck for four runs in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead.

Gorkys Hernandez brought the Giants closer in their half of the fourth with a single to score Miguel Gomez.  The Padres were able to keep the Giants in the bay and win the series 3-1 with a 5-2 win.

The Padres come back to Petco for another four-game series, this time against the Mets.  First pitch is at 7:10 p.m.  Jacob deGrom starts for the Mets against Clayton Richard.

Transactions:

  • Manuel Margot reinstated from paternity list
  • Franchy Cordero optioned to El Paso
