ECM PADRES REPORT: PADRES TAME DBACKS

February 26, 2023 (Peoria, Ariz.) - The Padres are back in Peoria today getting their first look at the Diamondbacks.  Tommy Henry started for Arizona against Julio Teheran.

Trent Grisham continued his nice spring with a three-run blast to right field in the second.  Manny Machado showed up with a long double to left that scored Jose Azocar.  Juan Soto did the same, but to right to score two.  Jake Cronenworth doubled to score Soto.  Ha-Seong Kim added on with a two-RBI single and the Padres tacked on a nine-run second inning to lead 9-0 after two.

 
Pavin Smith put the Dbacks on the board in the fourth with a two-run homer to right, but Azocar added on in the home half with a triple to right that scored Grisham.  Xander Bogaerts singled to score Azocar. Soto capped it off with a three-run homer to right center and the Padres led 14-2 after four.
 
The Dbacks tried to rally in the sixth with Alek Thomas’ double to left that scored two. Buddy Kennedy hit a triple to straightaway center to score Thomas.  Kennedy then scored, but the Padres moved further away in the home half of the sixth with Tim Lopes’ single to left that scored Preston Tucker.  Taylor Kohlwey singled to score two and Alfonso Rivas hit a solo homer and the Padres creamed Arizona 18-6.

The Padres get their first look at the Dodgers tomorrow.  First pitch is at 12:10 p.m.  Ryan Pepiot starts for L.A. against Nabil Crismatt.
