August 15, 2017 (San Diego) - Last night’s game one against the Phillies was a successful one for the Padres; they fought hard and got a three-run sixth and then some for the win and looked to get it again in game two tonight. Mark Leiter Jr. started on the hill for the Phillies against Dinelson Lamet.
The Padres got back to first inning scoring again with three runs. Yangervis Solarte doubled to left to score Carlos Asuaje. Cory Spangenberg scored Solarte and Wil Myers with a double to center and the Padres took a 3-0 lead.
Spangenberg added another RBI with a homer in the fourth to make it 4-0 Padres.
Jorge Alfaro put the Phillies on the board in the fifth with a two-run homer that cut the Padres’ lead in half to 4-2.
Spangenberg put up his third RBI of the night with a force groundout in the Padres’ half of the fifth that drove Asuaje in. Spangenberg stole second and a throwing error by Alfaro allowed Solarte to score and Hector Sanchez homered for two and the Padres scored four runs to go up 8-2.
The Phillies tried to start a rally in the ninth with a two run Rhys Hoskins homer, but the Padres took the game and the series with an 8-4 win.
Good old Wednesday matinee for the finale tomorrow at 12:40 p.m. Nick Pivetta starts for the Phillies against Clayton Richard.
