April 6, 2017 (Los Angeles) - It wasn’t half as bad as Opening Day, but the Padres still lost last night by only two runs.  They looked to even up the series and get out of LA with an even season series against the Dodgers.  New Padre (and perhaps a shadow of his former self) Jered Weaver started on the hill against Twitter funnyman Brandon McCarthy.

Mission Even Up Series didn’t go so well.  Last night’s Yasiel Puig was there and he hit a two-run homer this time to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead in the second.

Puig did it again in the fourth to put the Dodgers up 4-0.  Angels Jered Weaver would never do this.

Wil Myers came through in the sixth with his first home run of the year, a two-run pop up to right center, that cut the lead in half to 4-2.

But in the bottom of the sixth, Kiké Hernandez extended the lead with a double to left center that scored Austin Barnes and the Dodgers pulled away to 5-2.  Hernandez scored when the Padres wanted to try and pick off a runner at second, but decided to throw home instead.  The throw wasn't in time, was challenged and the call stood and the Dodgers were up by four again, 6-2.

Christian Bethancourt took the mound in the seventh and issued four straight walks to Dodgers hitters.  A run came home and the Dodgers led 7-2.  Corey Seager doubled and scored two runs and LA was quickly up 9-2.  Brad Hand relieved Bethancourt and threw a passed ball, allowing Andrew Toles to score and the Dodgers reached double digits, 10-2.  They carried that to the end and took the opening series three games to one.

The Padres are finally done with the Dodgers (for now) and are ready for Opening Day in San Diego tomorrow against the Giants.  First pitch at Petco is at 3:40 p.m.  Luis Perdomo gets the home opener nod for the Padres against Matt Cain for the Giants.
