July 15, 2017 (San Diego) - The Padres came so close to rallying back against the Giants last night, but they couldn't, falling one run short. They'd have an even tougher go of it tonight with MadBum, activated from the disabled list and pitching his first game since April 19, on the mound for the Giants against Jhoulys Chacin.
Hunter Pence got things started for the Giants in the first with a two-RBI single that gave San Francisco a 2-0 lead.
Matt Szczur put the Padres on the board with a solo homer in the third to make it 2-1.
But Jabari Blash provided the kicker with a two-run homer that gave the Padres the lead in the fourth 3-2.
But Joe Panik erased that with a solo homer in the sixth to tie the game at three.
It remained knotted at that for a while, but then Hector Sanchez did what he does best; come through in the clutch. He blasted a two-run walk off homer in the ninth and the Padres evened the series at one game apiece with a 5-3 win/
The series finale is tomorrow at 1:40 p.m. Jeff Samardzija starts for the Giants against Trevor Cahill.
