August 21, 2016 (San Diego) - The Padres had the opportunity to take the series from the Diamondbacks today with Luis Perdomo on the mound against Braden Shipley for Arizona.  And they did in a commanding way.

Things stayed quiet till the third when Travis Jankowski drilled his second home run of the season, good for two runs and the Padres took a 2-0 lead.

In the fifth, Adam Rosales hit his second triple of the season to score Patrick Kivlehan and the Padres went up 3-0.  Perdomo worked some pitcher magic with a double to drive home Rosales and the score was 4-0.

That wasn’t all.  In the sixth, Alex Dickerson, dubbed the Prince of Poway by Dick Enberg, launched a solo shot to the same place that Jankowski hit his homer and the Padres went up 5-0.  Brett Wallace hit a double that got away from right fielder Mitch Haniger that drove Christian Bethancourt from first all the way to home and it was 6-0.  After Dominic Leone replaced Shipley, Kivlehan singled and drove in Wallace and the Padres led 7-0.

In the seventh, Perdomo waved goodbye to his shutout by giving up a single to Brandon Drury that scored Phil Gosselin.  The Padres still led 7-1.

In the eighth, the Padres added two more on a broken-bat single by Alexei Ramirez and the Padres took the series from Arizona three games to one with a 9-1 win.  The last time the Padres scored 9+ runs in a Sunday game was on Bastille Day 2013.

The Chicago Cubs are coming to town tomorrow.  Game one is at 7:10 p.m.  Jon Lester will start for the Cubs against Edwin Jackson.
