PROJECT WILDLIFE'S 8TH ANNUAL WE LIKE IT WILD! EVENT FEATURES EXOTIC ANIMAL ENCOUNTERS, AND JOAN EMBERY AS HOST

               

 

 

August 18, 2014 (San Diego, CA) – Project Wildlife will be hosting its 8th annual We Like It Wild! fundraising event on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at the historic Pillsbury Ranch in Lakeside. The VIP Reception will run from 4-5pm, with the Main Excursion from 5-8pm. This ranch gala features renowned wildlife and conservation expert Joan Embery as host, as well as up-close and personal encounters with her exotic animals. We Like It Wild! raises critical funds for Project Wildlife’s work to rehabilitate wildlife in need and educate the public on conservation.

August 15, 2014 (Spring Valley) - The 9th Annual Spring Valley Fiesta will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with entertainment, refreshments, children's jumper, video game truck, face painting, and community information booths. The Fiesta is free of charge, and the public is invited to enjoy this special occasion that all ages can enjoy.

ST. MADELEINE SOPHIE’S CENTER 37TH HAUTE WITH HEART FASHION SHOW AND LUNCHEON “FASHION ON POINTE”

 

Proceeds raised will benefit more than 400 adults with developmental disabilities

August 14, 2014 (San Diego)-- St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center will host its 37th Haute with Heart Fashion Show on Saturday, August 16 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront (1 Park Boulevard San Diego, CA 92101). This year’s event, titled “Fashion on Pointe,” is a ballet-themed fashion show inspired by SMSC student John Agostini’s painting Ballerina, available for viewing at the event. 

“We are excited to present the Haute with Heart Fashion Show again this year, with the help of our sponsors making it our 37th,” said Debra Emerson, CEO of St. Madeline Sophie's Center in El Camjon. “This year’s event is unique in that the theme was drawn from SMSC student John’s Ballerina painting and will include our students’ performing arts production of Grease.”

August 12, 2014 (San Diego’s East County) -- This week’s Destination East County  includes some festive options for these hot August nights, from concerts to a dive-in movie.  Major charitable events are also taking place including a fashion show to benefit disabled adults in East County and an art lovers night atop Mt. Helix.  Plus we’ll have a sneak preview of activities later this month – including Julian’s StarFest and the start of pow-wow season.  Stay tuned for all these events and more on East County Magazine’s Destination East County!

SOMETHING TO SQUAWK ABOUT: WILD PARROT PRESENTATION AUG. 12 IN CREST

 

August 7, 2014 (Crest) - SoCal Parrot will be having a presentation at the Crest Library on August 12th at 6 p.m. including a discussion and insight into the wild parrots of Southern California, conservation status, how wild parrots came to the U.S. & how to help.

HEART OF MT. HELIX: AUGUST 16

 

 

August 7, 2014 (Mt. Helix)--The 7th annual HeART of Mt Helix will be held on Saturday, August 16 from 5:30 pm until 10 pm up in the pPark atop Mt. Helix.  

The event features live music on two stages, visual artists at work, restaurant tastings, auction, a signature cocktail, craft beer, wine and spectacular sunset views.

August 7, 2014 (Destination East County) – From fishing at night to fun with firefighters, we have some unique outings featured in this week’s Destination East County – along with some rollicking musical performances and "Politics in Paradise."  Plus we have previews of next week’s top events, from a Cajun concert to a event atop Mt. Helix for lovers of art, craft beer and wine.

THE THIRD ANNUAL SAN DIEGO COMIC FEST

 

August 5, 2014 (San Diego's East County) - The third annual San Diego Comic Fest will be held October 17-19 at the San Diego Town & Country Resort and Convention Center. The guest of honor is Neal Adams, the legendary artist for such super-heroes as Batman, X-Men, Deadman, Green Arrow and Superman.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME AUG. 5 IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY

 

August 1, 2014 (San Diego)—You’re invited to join the San Diego County Sheriff's Department for its free Night Out Against Crime events on Tuesday, August 5th.  There are locations countywide, including some in East County.

This week on Destination East County, we’ll start with some hot concerts and summer plays, a star party campout and the Pine Valley Days Parade.  Plus we’ll have previews of more super summertime events, from jazz in Julian to some rollicking times at the Ramona Country Fair.

RAMONA COUNTRY FAIR RUNS JULY 31 - AUGUST 3

 

July 20, 2014 (Ramona) -- This year's Ramona Country Fair will be held on Thursday, July 31st through Sunday, August 3rd. The Ramona Chamber of Commerce's 44th Annual Ramona Country Fair features the Ramona Junior Fair & Livestock Auction, two stages of music and entertainment, amusement rides,  craft and business vendors,  and food court. Entertainment includes a battle of the bands, music by headlining musical groups, the annual Ramona Idol competition, a singer/songwriter showcase, and much more.

July 15, 2014 (San Diego’s East County)--This week’s Destination East County has some wild events across our region, from the Bulls-Only Rodeo in Lakeside to a Yappy Hour in El Cajon. Iceskating starts at Hot Kroc Nights, plus we’ve got news of a blues concert, a wine dinner and a twilight walk—all in East County. We also have a sneak peak of some big events coming up next week, including Pine Valley Days and much more!

NEXT YAPPY HOUR AT DOWNTOWN CAFE JULY 17

 

July 14, 2014 (El Cajon)—Camp Bow Wow hosts its 4th annual Yappy Hour season at the Downtown Café in El Cajon, where guests are invited to bring your dog and enjoy free appetizers donated by the restaurant.

STAR PARTY AND FAMILY CAMPOUT AT OAK OASIS CAMPGROUND IN LAKESIDE JULY 25-26

 

July 8, 2014 (Lakeside) - At Oak Oasis  Preserve Campground in Lakeside, a free family campout and star party will be held on Friday night, July 25 through Saturday July 26.  You’re invited to join members of the San Diego Astronomy Association and park staff, using telescopes to view stars and planets from 8 to 10 p.m. If you plan to campover, arrive by 7 p.m.on Friday to set up before sunset.  (Note: Camping is only on Friday night.)

PINE VALLEY DAYS ROLLS OUT JULY 25 AND 26

 

 

July 14, 2014 (Pine Valley) – The mountain town of Pine Valley hosts its annual festivities on July 25 and 26.  The fanfare begins on Friday night, July 25, with a deep pit barbecue from 5-8 p.m. and live music by Emerald River from 6-10 p.m.

BULLS ONLY RODEO JULY 18 - 19 IN LAKESIDE

 

 

July 11, 2014 (Lakeside) –Bull riding, mutton bustin’ and wild horse racing are among the attractions slated for this weekends’ Bulls Only Rodeo at the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds.

SAN DIEGO WINE COUNTRY FESTIVAL JULY 12 AT BERNARDO WINERY

 

July 11, 2014 (Rancho Bernardo)—Wine aficionados can sip and savor vintages from over 20 local wineries at the San Diego County Vintners Association Wine Festival, including many East County vintners. The event takes place Saturday, July 12 from 1-6 p.m. at the Bernardo Winery in Rancho Bernardo.

July 8, 2014 (San Diego’s East County)-- This week’s Destination East County has some hot summertime events, from a dive-in movie to Descanso Days, a pet parade in Campo, and an extreme horsepower classic cruise night revving up in El Cajon.

We also have previews of some events later in the month, from twilight walks at Mission Trails to wine pairings in Ramona, and from live theater atop Mt. Helix, and a family campout complete with stargazing in Lakeside.

DROP A LINE AT THE SANTEE FIREFIGHTERS FISHING DERBY JULY 12

 

June 25, 2014 (Santee) – The Santee Firefighters Fishing Derby is set for Saturday, July 12 at Santee Lakes from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Derby participants will receive a free day permit, worms, raffle ticket, hot dog lunch and free door prizes while they last.

EL CAJON'S EXTREME HORSEPOWER JULY 9, BEACH BOYS TRIBUTE JULY 10

 

July 8, 2014 (El Cajon) - This week in Downtown El Cajon, Wednesday night’s Cajon Classic Cruises will have the theme “Extreme Horsepower” on July 9th.  Then on Thursday evening, July 10, the 80s All Stars band will perform a Beach Boys tribute at El Cajon’s Dinner and A Concert series from 6 to 9 p.m.

HOT KROC NIGHTS: STAY COOL WITH ICE SKATING AND DIVE-IN MOVIES

July 7, 2014 (San Diego) – Families are invited to beat the heat on Wednesday evenings this summer  by enjoying dive-in movies (float in the pool with inner tubes provided) and $5 ice skating.

It’s all part of Hot  Kroc Nights at the Salvation Army Kroc Center at 6845 University Avenue, just one block west of La Mesa.  Scroll down for a full schedule and details.

JULIAN FOURTH OF JULY PARADE CANCELLED DUE TO FIRE

 

 

July 3, 2014 (Julian) - The Julian 4th of July Parade has been cancelled due to the brush fire burning in the area, the CHP advised late today.

However the American Legion BBQ will still be held.

July 2, 2014 (San Diego’s East County)--This week’s Destination East County has a run-down on 4th of July festivities throughout our inland region. No need to fight traffic to watch fireworks at the beach when you can choose from an array of venues right here in East County—where our cities and historic small towns show their patriotic spirit with parades, picnics, festivals and fireworks.  You’ll hear about KNSJ radio’s anniversary celebration at Mission Trails.

Plus we’ll have a preview of some unique events coming up next week—from a firefighters’ fishing derby to outdoor musical theater, twilight walks, a star party, and a super full moon jazz concert amid fragrant fields of lavender!

4TH OF JULY PICNIC AT ALPINE VIEW LODGE TO BENEFIT ALZHEIMER'S

 

 

July 2, 2014 (Alpine) --Team Alpiners  will celebrate our nation's birth while hosting a  fundraising barbecue and bake sale from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the Alpine View Lodge, 973 Arnold Way in Alpine.

BACK COUNTRY WINE PAIRING AT JEREMY'S ON THE HILL JULY 4 IN JULIAN

 

June 29, 2014 (Julian) – In the historic gold rush town of Julian, the 4th of July starts with a parade and American Legion barbecue.  Guests are invited to finish up a day in the mountains at Jeremy’s on the Hill, where a Backcountry wine pairing dinner will be held featuring organic, local produce from Sage Mountain Farms and wines from Shadow Mountain Vineyards and Sierra Roble Winery and Vineyard, both in Warner Springs. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and tickets are $44 per person, plus tax and gratuity.

SAMEDA FAIRE 2014: A DAY-LONG DANCE FESTIVAL JULY 20

 

July 1, 2014 (San Diego) – The San Diego Area Middle Eastern Dance Association will present Sameda Faire 2014, a day long festival of dance on Sunday, July 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Scottish Rite Event Center. 

SUMMER TWILIGHT WALKS AT MISSION TRAILS

 

June 26, 2014 (Mission Trails)—You’re invited to join Mission Trails Regional Park guides this summer for free Saturday evening guided walks in the park to learn about changes that occur as the sun goes down.  These walks last approximately an hour and a half and start from the parking lot across from Kumeyaay Campground on July 19 at 7:15 p.m.August 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 20 at 6 p.m.
