CAMPO-LAKE MORENA ANNUAL ROUNDUP MAY 2

 

April 19, 2015 (San Diego's East County) - The 9th annual Campo-Lake Morena Roundup is set to be held on Saturday, May 2nd at the Camp Lockett Event and Equesterian Facility (799 Forrest Gate Rd.) in Campo. Gates open at 7 a.m. with opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. and presentation of this year’s grand marshall at 10 a.m. Period costumes are welcome.

AMERICA ON MAIN STREET BRINGS FREE RIDES, MUSIC AND MORE TO EL CAJON MAY 16

April 19, 2015 (Ramona) –Vineyard Grant James in Ramona announces a series of events. Whether your tastes run to a winemakers’ dinner to a mother’s day weekend with flowers and chocolates for Mom, you’ll find plenty to savor. The winery also offers a yoga and writing regreat, gourmet foodie potluck, a fundraiser for Ramona high school and a summer of sangria kick-off at the winery, as well as several events off-site.  In addition, Grant James has live music every Sunday afternoon.

April 17, 2015 (Ramona)-Step back in time at Ramona Old West Days, featuring living history encampments  as well as a gunfighters’ skit competition at the Ramona Rodeo grounds (421 Aqua Lane, Ramona).

April 15, 2015 (Lakeside)--The 50th annual Lakeside Western Days Parade will roll out on Saturday, April 18th starting at 9:30 a.m. down Lakeside’s Maine Street.   This year’s theme is “There’s no place like home” and the grand marshal is Gita Morena, granddaughter of L. Frank Baum, author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

April 15, 2015 (Rancho San Diego)--Like honey bees to a hive, the public swarms Cuyamaca College each year for its immensely popular Spring Garden Festival.  This year, the 22nd annual free event takes place 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 25.

April 14, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) --This week’s Destination East County includes Lakeside’s Western Days parade and rodeo, a harp concert at  Mission Trails and Fun with Physics in La Mesa.   We’ll also have a preview of coming attractions including a spring garden festival, garden tours, a concert at the Desert View Tower, and Vintage Alpine, a wine tasting experience in the country. 18TH ANNUAL CHIRP SAGE & SONGBIRDS GARDEN TOUR - MAY 1-3, 2015

 

April 12, 2015 (San Diego's East County) The Sage and Songbirds 18th annual graden tour will be held May 1-3, 2015. This year’s self-guided tour includes five private homes plus a hummingbird haven and raptor rehabilitation facility.

April 10, 2015 (Rancho San Diego) –The Códice Borbónico is a pictorial story depicting the life of Mayan, Aztec, and other Native Americans. It is now on a special exhibit at the Heritage of the Americas Museum at Cuyamaca College.

FREE BIRD TOUR AT LAKESIDE'S RIVER PARK CONSERVACY APRIL 11

 

April 9, 2015 (Lakeside) – A two-hour guided hike at the Lakeside River Park will be held on Saturday, April 11 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. to learn about birds of the San Diego River. Gail Sabbadini will lead the hike, identifying both year-round and migratory species.

April 10, 2015 (Alpine) – The 25th annual Vintage Alpine on Sunday May 3rd from 1 to 4 p.m. at Summers Past Farms in Flinn Springs will feature tastings of 40 wines plus foods from fine restaurants across our region.  This event attracts over 500 people annually, with all proceeds used to benefit services and programs for the children of San Diego.

April 5, 2015 (Lakeside) – The Lakeside Rodeo has been an annual tradition in Lakeside for the past 51 years. 

This year’s event features Western-style entertainment and events that include bronc riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling, roping competitions, bull riding, and for youngsters, stick horse riding.

World champion trick roper Rider Keisner will be performing, In addition, the  Budweiser Clydesdale horses will also make an appearance at some (though not all) rodeo performances, with public viewings also scheduled.

RELAY FOR LIFE SET TO RUN IN LEMON GROVE MAY 16

April 5, 2015 (Lemon Grove) – The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life is the world’s largest fundraising event to end cancer. The Lemon Grove Relay for Life event will be held on Sunday, May 16th starting at 9 a.m. at Lemon Grove Middle School, 7866 Lincoln Avenue.

This occasion unites communities around the world to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all. The family-friendly event features food, entertainment, games and activities. Organized teams have members from their teams walk around the track during the entire 24 hours of the event, symbolizing that “cancer never sleeps.”

AMERICA ON MAIN STREET MAY 16 IN EL CAJON

 

April 3, 2015 (El Cajon )—El Cajon’s second annual America on Main Street festival will be held on Saturday, May 16th from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in downtown El Cajon.  This family-fun celebration honoring the American spirit will feature four stages with live entertainment, a Ferris wheel, petting zoo, pony rides and hay rides.

Friday, April 3, 2015 (La Mesa) -- Making literal the Easter message of a new day for 90 years now, Easter Sunrise services will be held again on Sunday, April 5 at 6:30 a.m. in the Mt. March 31, 2015 (Rancho San Diego)--In conjunction with the Spring Garden Festival at Cuyamaca College, the Heritage of the Americas Museum holds a very special drawing each year,  the "Five-Choices Dream Drawing."  The drawing will take place at the museum on Saturday, April 25, at 2:00 p.m.  The prizes represent the four wings of the Museum:  Natural History, Archaeology, Anthropology, and Art, ranging from pre-Columbian artifacts to a carved amethyst and quartz swan.

CAJON CLASSIC CRUISES: SEASON OPENS APRIL 22

 

March 24, 2015 (El Cajon) – Get ready to rev up – Cajon Classic Cruises is rolling out its 2015 season starting Wednesday, April 22nd with a full street closure for opening night.  The cruises will continue all summer long on Wednesday nights from 5 to 8 p.m.

The second week, April 29th will celebrate Cinco de Mayo.  Other  highlights include Jimmie Johnson night on July 22nd , a Military Tribute June 17th, Thunder on Main on September 30th, and Trunk or Treat on October 28th at season’s end.
