December 9, 2016 (La Mesa)-- The new Holiday in the Village event will be bringing back some of La Mesa's most cherished holiday traditions--including chestnuts roasting on open fires,  holiday music and carnival rides for kids,  plus creating some new memories for all including booths with over 80 artisans.  Santa Claus will also be at the event slated for this Saturday,  December10th from 10 a.m.to 10 p.m. There's also a holiday card drive to brighten the holidays for U.S. troops overseas.

This is the first year that the new  La MesaVillage Association has been in charge of the event.  East County Magazine interviewed  Katie Halvin,  an organizer of the event,  on our radio show originally aired on KNSJ 89.1  FM.  You can listen now by clicking the orange link above.

November 30, 2016 (Santee) - Santa and snow are in the forecast on Sunday, December 11th from 11:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the 16th annual Santa at the Lakes event at Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve.

Kids of all ages can enjoy a variety of activities including Snow Hill, photos with Santa, pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, carnival rides, holiday crafts, and hay rides.

November 29, 2016 (La Mesa) - The La Mesa Village Association's new event, Holiday in the Village, will be held on December 10th from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., following a long history of Christmas in the Village events.

“As it is a new association sponsoring the event and the city is working to be more inclusive of all the holiday festivities at this time of year we have changed the name to reflect that,” the LMVA website states. Rest assured we will still have fire pits, caroling, lots of events for kids, and craft vendors to get everyone in the mood of the season!"

LEMON GROVE BONFIRE TO LIGHT UP NIGHT ON FRIDAY

November 27, 2016 (Lemon Grove) — The City of Lemon Grove will host its 19th annual community bonfire on Friday, December 2nd at Civic Center Park (3200 Main St.) from 5 to 9 p.m.

The city’s winter tradition includes the lighting of a giant bonfire as well as live music, rock climbing, a hayride, game truck, game booths,  arts and crafts, face painting, hot chocolate and snacks.

November 24, 2016 (San Diego) - Save green and enjoy the upside of outside with County Parks’ Green Friday events this weekend. The County Parks and Recreation Department has come up with a variety of fun activities starting Friday, Nov. 25 and stretching into Saturday, Nov. 26. Parking, or day-use fees, will be waived on Green Friday so visitors can picnic and play at dozens of parks, and explore 350 miles of trails for free!

GROSSMONT HEALTHCARE DISTRICT OFFERS FREE HEALTH SCREENINGS FOR CHILDREN AT KID CARE FEST SATURDAY NOV. 5 IN LAKESIDE

November 3, 2016 (Lakeside)--The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD), a public agency that supports health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County, will present the 2016 Kids Care Fest, a free, family-oriented health event open to the public. Featuring free health care screenings, Kids Care Fest will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds,12584 Mapleview St., Lakeside.

Now in its 15th year, Kids Care Fest is an opportunity for children to receive free, potentially life-saving health care screenings, including vision and dental screenings and children’s wellness checkups. The event will also feature information from dermatologists, pharmacists and other medical professionals, along with free kids fingerprinting and free flu shots (while supplies last).
