May 22, 2011 (San Diego) – Explore Mission Trails Day provided kids and adults with plenty to discover—from guided hikes along trails through the 5,800 acre Mission Trails Regional Park preserve to up-close encounters with birds of prey from the Sky Hunters Raptor and Rehabilitation Facility.
Children also delighted in viewing sunspots through a special telescope set-up, making some hands-on crafts projects, learning about park wildlife, and getting a lesson on the park’s history, including the Kumeyaay Indians and Spanish friars who once inhabited the region.
Guests also visited the museum, gift shop and a gallery of photographs taken in the park.
It’s clear to see why Mission Trails, the largest park in San Diego County, is known as the jewel in the city of San Diego’s park system.
For more information on the park's many activities year-round, visit www.mtrp.org.
For those over 21 who wish to party in the park 'til after dark, join East County Magazine and Chefs de Cuisine at our Summerfest event on Sunday, June 26. Feasting, wine tasting, live music, tours, thousands of dollars in prizes and surprises are all part of the festivities.
