CASINO OPPPONENTS PLAN MEETING OCT. 27 ON PROTEST OF LIQUOR LICENSE

October 19, 2016 (Jamul) – The Jamul Action Committee, which opposes the new Hollywood Casino in Jamul, has announced a community meeting on Thursday, October 27 at 7 p.m.in the Jamul Primary multi-use room at 14567 Lyons Valley Road.

CALTRANS HOLDS JAMUL MEETING AUG. 5 TO DISCUS HIGHWAY 94 MITIGATION

August 3rd, 2015 (Jamul, California) - CalTrans is holding a public meeting on the State Route 94 Improvement Project including traffic safety issues related to the Hollywood Casino Jamul on Wednesday, August 5th from 5 to 8 p.m.at the Cottonwood Golf Course, 3121 Willow Glen Dr. El Cajon.

Caltrans, the State’s highway engineers, have proposed road improvement to portions of State highway 94 to handle the increased traffic including major road widening, turn lanes, lane painting, guard rails, signage, traffic signals and exit lanes.   The Jamul tribe has expended substantial sums to help fund improvements as mitigation for the new casino.

However some residents think the mitigation doesn’t adequately address all the problems, particularly near Steele Canyon High School and on Otay Road.  Steele Canyon road is especially important because of all the foot-traffic and teen drivers; Otay Road is the shortest distance to the casino from the Otay border crossing.

JAMUL ACTION COMMITTEE APPEALS CASINO RULING

May 27, 2015 (Jamul) – The Jamul Action Committee and Jamulians Against the Casino (JAC/JCC) today announced that they have appealed to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, after a federal judge denied their request for a prelimininary injunction to halt construction of a casino at the Jamul Indian Village.

The plaintiff’s request for a permanent injunction remains pending while the tribe moves forward on construction.

ATTEMPT TO SHUT DOWN JAMUL CASINO FAILS IN COURT

May 21, 2015 (Jamul Indian village) – U.S. District Judge Kimberly J. Mueller  rejected an activist group’s motion to preemptively halt construction on the proposed Hollywood themed casino on the Jamul Indian Village land.

JAMUL RESIDENTS PROTEST CASINO AS CONSTRUCTION PROGRESSES

March 11, 2015 (Jamul)--Approximately 200 protesters held a “flash mob” demonstration in Jamul Saturday, wearing red as they voiced their continuing opposition to a casino under construction at the Jamul Indian Village.

Excavation is completed at the project, site of a planned Hollywood-themed casino in conjunction with Penn National Gaming.

Projected to open in mid-2016, the casino is expected to include a three-story gaming and entertainment facility of approximately 200,000 square feet with gaming, restaurants, bars, and parking.  The tribe estimates the project will create an estimated 2,500 construction and permanent jobs in the area.
