April 2, 2016 (Fallbrook) – Jamul resident Dennis Hogge, 62, crash landed the Lancair IV plane he was piloting onto I-15 in the Pala Mesa area of Fallbrook this morning. Hogge has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries including head trauma, 10 News reports.

The plane struck a car parked on the shoulder that was carrying San Diego roller derby members. Antoinette “Toni” Frances Isbelle, 38, of San Diego, was crushed in the backseat of the vehicle and died at the scene.  A member of the Starlettes roller derby team, she was known as “Rockalishous,” the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Three others in the car struck by the plane were also injured.  The driver, Aaron McCaann of Escondido, had stopped on the shoulder with a cell phone issue when the plane struck.  He  suffered a cut over his eye.  A member of the Aftershocks roller derby group, he is known as “Rodwy Rodbuster.”

Passengers Jason Soule, aka “Vanilla Gorilla” on the Aftershocks, reportedly had a broken shoulder. Emily Boesmiller-Hoch had a leg injury. Both are from San Diego.

A female passenger in the plane suffered a large laceration on her neck and later underwent surgery, the UT reports. Her name has not been released to media.

Some witnesses reported hearing a sputtering sound before the plane came down, skidding about 250 feet before the collision.  There were numerous witnesses, many of whom rushed to help free victims from the wreckage.

Firefighters worked for a half hour to free Isbelle from the wreckage and prevent the vehicle from catching fire, doubtless saving more lives.

The same plane previously made an emergency landing on I-15 back in 2000, when it was owned and piloted by Matt Nokes, a former Major League Baseball player, the  Union-Tribune reports.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are conducting an investigation into the deadly crash.
