Jewish Family Service hosts drive-thru food distribution for government workers on Oct. 15

Oct. 14, 2025 (San Diego) -- Jewish Family Service of San Diego has found another way to help those impacted by the United States federal government shutdown.
 
The nonprofit that helps the entire community, along with The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, is hosting a drive-thru food distribution on Oct. 15 at Jewish Family Service of San Diego, Joan & Irwin Jacobs Campus in Kearny Mesa for families impacted by the shutdown.
 
Nearly 200 families of federal workers and those in the military will each receive about 40 pounds of food, including fresh produce, non-perishable and shelf-stable pantry food.

FREE RIDESHARE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED URGENTLY

July 26, 2024 (San Diego) -- Jewish Family Service of San Diego’s On the Go program is proud to be the largest senior transportation program in the county. This vital service provides rides for seniors who are unable to drive, with a significant number of clients residing in East County. Volunteers act as a free rideshare service, using their own cars to drive seniors to the grocery store, medical appointments, and even to the veterinarian with their pets.

November 12, 2021 (San Diego) – A coalition of legal groups representing asylum seekers say that dozens of requests for urgent humanitarian parole have been ignored for weeks while others have been denied without adequate explanation.  The applicants include individuals and families with life-threatening medical conditions.
