Kaiser Permanente strike enters second day

October 15, 2025 (San Diego) -- A five-day strike by health care workers at  Kaiser Permanente facilities entered its second day Wednesday affecting three hospitals in San Diego County.

The strike is part of a walkout statewide in California and Hawaii involving 31,000 members of the United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care professionals. Members include registered nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, rehab therapists, dietitians, speech-language pathologists, nurse anesthetists, nurse practitioners, midwives and other specialty health workers.

KAISER STRIKE SETTLES AS HEALTHCARE WORKERS REACH “HISTORIC" CONTRACT

October 17, 2023 (Los Angeles) -- More than 85,000 Kaiser Permanente healthcare workers reached a historic tentative agreement on Oct.13 for a new contract that will substantially raise wages, bolster patient safety and make critical investments in the healthcare workforce at hundreds of Kaiser facilities across California, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

KAISER WORKERS POSTPONE STRIKE DUE TO DEATH OF KAISER CEO BERNARD TYSON

November 11, 2019 (San Diego) – Kaiser Permanente Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bernard J. Tyson passed away unexpectedly yesterday morning in his sleep, the healthcare organization announced.  Today, 170 National Union of Healthcare Workers voted unanimously to postpone a planned 5-day statewide strike of mental health employees due to Tyson’s passing.
