June 4, 2018 (El Cajon) – A Lakeside couple is accused of attempted murder and felony criminal conspiracy after allegedly assaulting an El Cajon woman and trying to run over her boyfriend.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at East Madison Avenue and North First Street in El Cajon.  Several 911 calls reported a vehicle striking a pedestrian in what investigators found to be an intentional act.

According to police, Louis Berken got out of a Dodge station wagon driven by David Willian Dunkel.  Berken allegedly assaulted the El Cajon woman, with whom the couple was previously acquainted. Berken then got back in the car and Dunkel deliberately drove his vehicle onto the sidewalk, hitting the woman’s boyfriend.

Both the male victim and Dunkel suffered injuries and were taken to a hospital. After his release Saturday night, Dunkel and Bergen were arrested and remain jailed without bail.
