April 16, 2016 (San Diego) - Another late game for the Padres with Andrew Cashner on the hill for the Padres.

The Padres got it started in the second when Alexei Ramirez singled and scored Melvin Upton to give the Padres a 1-0 lead.  Jon Jay walked to score Ramirez and make the score 2-0.

In the third, Matt Kemp hit a solo home run and extended the lead to 3-0.

In the fifth, the DBacks got one back with Jean Segura’s grounder that scored Yasmany Tomas to make the score 3-1 Padres.

The snakes scored one more in the seventh on Brandon Drury’s sac fly and the score was 3-2.

The Dbacks finally tied the game when Rickie Weeks Jr. scored on a wild pitch in the eighth and the score was tied at three and once again, just as last night, the game was a pitcher’s duel.

For the first time in the Padres’ young season, the ballgame went to extra innings.  On and on, the innings dragged, until the 14th, when Melvin Upton did something no one expected him to do.  With two outs, Upton skied it to center field and just over the center field wall for a two run homer and the first Padres home and walk-off win of the season.

The Padres take game two 5-3.  Sunday matinee tomorrow for the series finale.
