May 7, 2016 (San Diego) - Padres fans were in for a treat tonight as they got to witness the legendary Bartolo Colon take the mound for the Mets in game three against James Shields for San Diego.

This time, the Mets struck first.  Yoenis Cespedes hit a two-run homer in the first and New York took a 2-0 lead.

In the second, the Padres learned why baseball fans call Colon a legend.  After 246 plate appearances in his MLB career, the pitcher hit a two-run homer to give the Mets a 4-0 lead.  Colon is now the oldest player to hit his first career home run, breaking Randy Johnson’s record.

The Padres weren't daunted by that stat.  Jon Jay hit a three-run homer in the third to get the Padres back in the game and to cut the Mets’ lead to 4-3.

But the Mets stayed on top with two solo homers in the ninth from David Wright and Michael Conforto to win game three 6-3.  The Mets take their first game of the series in commanding fashion.

Jemile Weeks left the game with a right hamstring injury.  Game four, the final game of the series, will be tomorrow at 1:40 p.m.
