May 17, 2016 (San Diego) - The Padres returned home to start a three-game homestand against the NL West rival San Francisco Giants.  Madison Bumgarner started for the Giants against Colin Rea, so that pretty much gives you an idea of how this game was going to go.

Brandon Crawford confirmed that statement.  He hit a three run bomb in the second to put the Giants ahead 3-0.

In the sixth, Crawford popped out to score Buster Posey and the Giants went up 4-0.

In the eighth, Crawford was back at it again with an extra base hit that drove in Hunter Pence for a 5-0 San Fran lead.

In the ninth, the Padres rallied a little bit with Matt Kemp’s solo home run to take away MadBum’s shutout and make the final score 5-1 Giants.

Game two is tomorrow.  A much more even pitching matchup tomorrow with Drew Pomeranz for San Diego against Johnny Cueto for San Francisco.
