June 15, 2016 (San Diego) - The Padres hoped to avoid the sweep in today’s series finale against the Miami Marlins. Justin Nicolino got the start for Miami against Luis Perdomo for San Diego.

Call me crazy, but I really don’t think it was a great idea to let the struggling Perdomo start against a team that’s won two games in a row against you.  Christian Yelich singled in the first with two men on, scoring Ichiro Suzuki and the Marlins went up 1-0.

But Melvin Upton Jr. bailed him out with a deep solo shot to center in the second to tie the game at one.

After making somewhat of an effort, the Padres gave up the lead again in the fourth when J.T. Realmuto singled and scored Marcell Ozuna, giving the Marlins a 2-1 lead.  Miguel Rojas hit a sac fly, scoring Justin Bour and the fish went up 3-1.

Ryan Schimpf hit a sacrifice fly in the Padres’ half of the fourth and the Padres found themselves within one, 3-2.

Then in the fifth, the unthinkable happened.  Derek Norris singled, scoring Matt Kemp and Yangervis Solarte and the Padres now had a 4-3 lead.  Upton Jr. singled and Norris scored, giving the Padres a 5-3 lead.

In the sixth, Wil Myers doubled and scored Jon Jay and the Pads were now ahead 6-3.  They’d take that score to the end and avoid the sweep.

The Padres will now face the Washington Nationals for the first time this season.  The Nats will be in for a four-game set starting tomorrow at 7:10 p.m.
