August 1, 2016 (San Diego) - New month, clean slate.  That was the mindset the Padres had as they entered August after a less-than-great July, starting the month with a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers.  New Padre Jarred Cosart got the start against Jimmy Nelson for the Brewers.

The Padres got a lead for the newbie in the second with Derek Norris’ groundout that scored Ryan Schimpf that gave the good guys a 1-0 lead.

But he himself gave it up as the Brewers pulled ahead by one on a two-run homer by Hernan Perez in the fifth.  2-1 Brew.

But don’t worry!  The Padres got the game back even in their half of the fifth with Alexi Amarista’s single that scored Travis Jankowski to make the score 2-2.  And then they took the lead back on Yangervis Solarte’s single that scored two for a comfy (these are the Brewers, remember) 4-2 lead.  Schimpf tripled and scored Solarte for one more run.  5-2 Padres.  Adam Rosales added one more with a sac fly that scored Schimpf and the Padres went up 6-2.

Chris Carter homered in the eighth off of Brad Hand to cut the lead in half, but that would be all the rallying the Brewers would do as the Padres got one more run when Jankowski stole third and home on a Wil Myers rundown and the Padres took game one 7-3.

Game two is tomorrow at 7:10 p.m.  Luis Perdomo will start against Zach Davies.

Transaction news:

  • Yangervis Solarte reinstated from Family Leave list
  • Jose Rondon sent to AA San Antonio
