August 9, 2016 (Pittsburgh) - After a lackluster series against one Pennsylvania team, the Padres decided to head to Pittsburgh to try their luck against the other Pennsylvania team. Luis Perdomo got the start for San Diego against Chad Kuhl for Pittsburgh.
The Padres wasted no time leaping all over the struggling Pirates. Alex Dickerson doubled in the first, scoring Yangervis Solarte and the Pads took a 1-0 lead. Jabari Blash singled, scoring Dickerson and the lead was 2-0.
In the second, Sean Rodriguez grounded out, scoring David Freese and the Padres’ lead was cut to 2-1.
Rodriguez later tied the game in the fourth at two with a single that scored Freese again.
The Pirates broke the game open in the fifth with Gregory Polanco’s (aka El Coffee) three run homer to give the Buccos a 5-2 lead. Francisco Cervelli doubled, scoring Freese and the Pirates went up 6-2.
Wil Myers cut the Bucs’ lead in half with a solo homer in the eighth and Blash would cut it to two with a homer in the ninth, but the Padres would lose 6-4.
Game two of Bucs-Pads is tomorrow at 4:05 p.m.
