June 3, 2017 (San Diego) - Here’s something we can’t talk about very often:  the Padres have a winning streak.  Five games, to be exact.  But they’re still at the bottom of the NL West.  They’d try for six today with Jhoulys Chacin on the mound against Tyler Chatwood for Colorado.

Unfortunately, the Rockies kept the lead today.  Gerardo Parra started it up in the fourth with a single to score Carlos Gonzalez and the Rockies led 1-0.

In the fifth, D.J. LeMahieu singled to right to score Chatwood and Nolan Arenado put the dagger in with a two-run bomb and the Rockies led 4-0.

Austin Hedges put the Padres on the board with a solo homer in the Padres’ half of the fifth.  The Rockies still led 4-1.

But the Padres would get no more; the Rockies kept pounding.  Ian Desmond made an appearance as usual and blasted a grand slam in the seventh to give the Rockies an 8-1 lead.

LeMahieu singled on the eighth to score Chatwood and Arenado hit a sac fly to make it 10-1 Colorado. The Rockies evened the series with a monster performance away from home.  The Padres’ five-game winning streak ends.

Game three is tomorrow at 1:40 p.m.  Tyler Anderson starts for Colorado against Jarred Cosart.
