March 12, 2016 (Peoria, Az.) - Andrew Cashner was looking to rebound from a nightmarish 2015 and oh boy, did he.

Cash threw five strikeouts through three shutout innings with no hits and one walk.  Then Drew Pomeranz took his place and everything went downhill for a bit; Jesus Aguilar solo homered for a 1-0 Indians lead in the fourth.

In the bottom of the sixth,  Cory Spangenberg bunted and reached on a leadoff single off of new Tribe pitcher Giovanni Soto.  Spangenberg stole second and Wil Myers walked.  Travis Jankowski laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners by 90 feet.  And Poway High alum Alex Dickerson did the rest, lining it into left to drive home Spangenberg and Myers for a 2-1 Padres lead.

A sac pop up from Alexei Ramirez brought home Dickerson and the Friars went up 3-1.  But maybe it’s true that submarine pitchers have less control.  In the seventh, James Ramsey doubled off of the Pads’ Eric Yardley and brought home a run to make the score 3-2.  Giovanny Urshela doubled and brought in Ramsey to tie the game at three.  Blake Smith replaced Yardley and Jabari Blash made a great catch to end the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Padres blew the game wide open.  The bases were full of Friars for Jabari Blash, who said “no problem,” stayed patient and took a walk from Indians relief pitcher Felipe Paulino and drove in a run to give the Padres a 4-3 lead.  Jemile Weeks hit a bomb of a line drive to right to drive in two runs to up the lead to 6-3, the final score.

The Padres turn things around after their 9-4 loss to the Tribe on Thursday.  They're back in action tomorrow against the Giants.
