June 24, 2016 (Cincinnati) – After a great rally win yesterday in the series opener, the Padres looked to do it again tonight.  Colin Rea started for San Diego against Cody Reed, who was pitching in his first big league game for Cincinnati.  Let’s see how he did.

Well, he didn't get off to an amazing start because Wil Myers hit a solo home run off of him in the first inning and the Padres took a 1-0 lead.  Myers becomes the first player in the league to hit double-digit homers in the month of June.

Reed has a lot to learn about the big leagues, evidently.  He balked in the second, scoring Derek Norris and the Padres went up 2-0.

Norris beat out a double play ball in the third, driving Matt Kemp home and the Padres went up 3-0.

The Reds’ half of the third might as well be called The Comedy of Errors.  Cincy got a run back on an error that scored Billy Hamilton.  The Padres still led 3-1.  Another error scored Reed. 3-2.  The Padres could’ve stopped giving up runs to the Reds there; it’s never too late to stop.  But they didn’t.  Jay Bruce singled, scoring two and the Reds took a 4-3 lead.  At least the Padres stopped committing errors?

But the Pads made up for that awful inning in the fourth with Myers’ liner to center to score Adam Rosales and tie the game at four.

In the fifth, the Padres re-took the lead 5-4 on Alexei Ramirez’s single that drove home Yangervis Solarte.

In the sixth, Reed was relieved by Raisel Iglesias, who didn’t fare much better; Adam Rosales hit a solo homer off of him and the Padres went up 6-4.

In the seventh, Melvin Upton Jr. hit an opposite field two-run bomb off of reliever Jonathan Lorenzen and the Padres’ lead was 8-4.  The Padres had 12 hits at this point, three were home runs.

In the eighth, Myers doubled, scored three and the Padres’ lead went to double digits, 11-4.  Upton Jr. decided he’d hit another two-runner and launched one out to give the Padres a 13-4 lead.  They’d ride that score to the end in an amazing, un-Padres-like (always a welcome sight!) game.

Tomorrow’s game is a matinee at 1:10 p.m.  The game will NOT be on Fox Sports San Diego.  Fox Sports One will carry the broadcast.  Check your TV guide for the channel.  Drew Pomeranz will start against Brandon Finnegan for the Reds.

In transaction news, the Padres have outrighted catcher Hector Sanchez to AAA El Paso after he cleared waivers today.
