February 12, 2016 (San Diego) - With spring training just days away and another exciting summer of baseball looming on the horizon, Padres General Manager A.J. Preller is doing more shake-ups in the front office.
He's hired former Japanese pitcher Hideo Nomo to be an adviser in baseball operations. Preller wants to expand the diversity of the Padres to include and develop more players from the Pacific Rim and Nomo is just the man to do it, as MLB.com's Corey Brock writes:
"Nomo was the first Japanese player to permanently move to Major League Baseball, paving the way for more than 50 other Japanese players to follow. He was inducted into the Japan Hall of Fame in 2014 at the age of 45, the youngest player ever elected."
