May 24, 2016 (San Francisco) - The Padres have suffered two heartbreaking games in a row.  Tonight they decided to change that.  The recently called up Andrew Cashner started on the hill for San Diego against Jeff Samardzija for San Francisco.

Or DID they decide to do anything?  The Giants struck first again, this time much earlier than the ninth inning.  Denard Span singled in the third and drove home Gregor Blanco and the G-men took a 1-0 lead.

But in the fifth, Jon Jay tied the game at one with a solo homer.

But what are small men compared to Giants?  In the sixth, Buster Posey doubled and scored Joe Panik and the score was 2-1 San Francisco.  Brandon Crawford singled and scored Posey and the Giants took a two-run lead, 3-1.

Crawford did it again in the eighth, tripling and scoring three and the Giants went up 6-1.  Jarrett Parker hit a two-run bomb and the Giants led 8-1.

In the ninth, Hector Sanchez got a run back for the Padres with a single that scored Brett Wallace, but the Giants came up with another giant win, 8-2.

Tomorrow’s matinee finale is at 12:45 p.m.

In transaction news, the Padres optioned pitcher Kevin Quackenbush to AAA El Paso to make room for Andrew Cashner, who’s off the disabled list.
