March 7, 2017 (Peoria, Ariz.) - Padres spring training continued today with a special exhibition game against the Mexican national team.  Walter Lockett started on the mound for the Padres against Luis Mendoza for Mexico.

Even though it was exhibition against a team they'll never see during the season, the Padres still jumped out of the gate.  With runners on first and second, Wil Myers doubled and Erick Aybar scored to make the score 1-0.  Hunter Renfroe hit a sac fly to score Cory Spangenberg and it was 2-0 San Diego quickly.

With the bases loaded in the third, Carlos Asuaje lined out to right.  Spangenberg scored again and the Padres led 3-0.  Jabari Blash singled to right to score Myers and San Diego led 4-0.

Spangenberg added one more in the fourth when he singled to center to score Franchy Cordero and the Padres led 5-0.

Hector Sanchez answered with a solo shot of his own in the Padres’ half of the sixth to extend the lead back to five at 6-1.

Mexico finally got themselves on the board with Luis Juarez’s solo home run in the sixth.  The Padres still led 6-1.

The Friars struck for one more in the eighth on Franchy Cordero’s double that scored Jose Pirela and made the score 7-1.

Brandon Laird hit a two-run homer in the ninth to make the score 7-3, but the Padres still escaped with the win.

The Padres get a day off tomorrow before facing the Brewers on Thursday.  First pitch is set for 12:10 p.m.
