May 28, 2016 (Phoenix) - The Padres looked to replicate the outstanding game they had last night, winning 10-3.  Cesar Vargas was on the mound tonight for San Diego against the veteran Zack Greinke for Arizona.

They got off to another great start.  Matt Kemp homered in the first for the Padres to take a 1-0 lead.

But in the very next half inning, Jake Lamb singled and drove in two and the Dbacks went up 2-1.

After that, it was all downhill from there.  Jean Segura hit a sacrifice fly in the second to score Chris Owings and the Diamondbacks went up 3-1.  Two snakes scored on Michael Bourn’s single and the DBacks went up 5-1. The inning was capped off with Paul Goldschmidt’s two-run homer and the DBacks took a whopping 7-1 lead early.

In the fifth, Pads reliever Luis Perdomo threw a wild pitch aimed straight at Lamb’s head that rolled all the way back to the wall, causing a run to score and the DBacks to go up 8-1.

The Padres got back-to-back doubles in the sixth from Alexi Amarista and Jon Jay to make the score 8-2 DBacks.  Yangervis Solarte doubled and drove home Jay and the score was 8-3 DBacks.  Melvin Upton Jr. hit a sac fly that drove home Wil Myers and the DBacks had a four-run lead at 8-4.

In the ninth, a wild throw to first by DBacks closer Brad Ziegler drove in a run for the Padres and the score was 8-5.  Hector Sanchez hit a two-run single that drove in two and suddenly, the DBacks led by one, 8-7. But the DBacks turned a double play that ended the ballgame and now the series is split one game apiece.

The Pads and DBacks will play the series finale at 1:10 tomorrow afternoon.

In transaction news, the Padres have optioned pitcher Keith Hessler to El Paso.  Pitcher Matt Thornton has been activated from the disabled list.
