September 16, 2016 (Denver) - After sweeping the Giants for the second time this season (they’re the only team the Padres have swept this year, by the way), the Padres made their way east to Denver for another series against the Rockies.  Christian Friedrich started against Tyler Chatwood.

The Padres took advantage of their NL West friends early.  Wil Myers hit a two-run home run in the first and it was 2-0 Friars.

The Rockies chipped away a bit in the second with Chatwood’s single that scored Stephen Cardullo and the score was cut in half, 2-1.  It was D.J. LeMahieu who delivered the kicker, with a double to score three and the Padres found themselves trailing 4-2.

But that wasn't a big deal for Alex Dickerson and Ryan Schimpf.  Dickerson singled in the third, scoring two and the Padres tied the game at four.  Schimpf scored and the Padres went up 5-4.

Jon Jay added a single in the fourth and the Padres led 6-4.

Luis Sardinas hit a solo home run in the sixth and the Padres led 7-4.

In the seventh, the Rockies made an effort.  Carlos Gonzalez grounded out to score Charlie Blackmon.  The Padres still led 7-5.

After a hail delay, the Rockies came back empowered by the weather in their home state.  In the bottom of the ninth, CarGo singled to score LeMahieu and the Rockies were within one at 7-6.  Nick Hundley singled to score CarGo and the Rockies tied the game at seven.  And to walk it all off, Daniel Descalso singled to score David Dahl and the Rockies rallied to get an 8-7 win.

Game two will start 30 minutes earlier tomorrow at 5:10 p.m.  Edwin Jackson will start against Jon Gray.
