HELP HOMELESS STUDENTS IN THE COUNTY BY DONATING MONEY TO PURCHASE BACK-TO-SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR

$49,000 out of a $100,000 goal has already been raised

July 28, 2021 (San Diego) – So far, the community has donated $49,000 to SDCCU Stuff the Bus to help provide back-to-school supplies and meals for students experiencing homelessness in San Diego County. SDCCU Stuff the Bus also includes a partnership with the YMCA of Orange County to collect school supplies for students in both Orange and Riverside counties. The goal is to collect $100,000 to help set these students up for success in the coming school year. Everyone is encouraged to donate at sdccu.com/donate

SDCOE SEEKS CANDIDATES FOR APPOINTMENT TO PERSONNEL COMMISSION

August 15, 2018 (San Diego) - The San Diego County Board of Education (County Board) and the County Superintendent of Schools are currently seeking candidates interested in being appointed to the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) Personnel Commission. Letters of interest for appointment to the Personnel Commission are currently being accepted for the County Board/Superintendent-appointed personnel commissioner. The term of office will commence Dec. 1, 2018, at noon, and expire Dec. 1, 2021, at noon. The County Board/superintendent-appointed commissioner will assume office at the regularly scheduled Personnel Commission meeting on Dec. 19, 2018.

November 3, 2016 (San Diego) - California Coast Credit Union is partnering with the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) and the San Diego Unaccompanied Youth Task Force this holiday season to launch a sock drive to collect thousands of new, unused socks for youth experiencing homelessness in San Diego County.

TEACHERS CAN REQUEST FREE RADIOS FOR DISASTER KITS

March 10, 2015 (San Diego)--Elementary school students learning about the science of natural disasters are also learning how to stay safe and be prepared. A $15,000 donation from AT&T will go toward buying a hand crank-powered radio for each participating classroom to add to its emergency kit.

GRAND JURY: COUNTY IS BREAKING STATE EDUCATION LAW AT JUVENILE DETENTION FACILITIES

May 10, 2014 (San Diego)--Recent changes in how at-risk youngsters in custody in San Diego County’s six juvenile detention facilities are educated violates state law, according to a report released May 8th by the San Diego County Grand Jury. The facilities are operated by the San Diego County Probation Department, with the educational component provided by the San Diego County Office of Education.
