May 18, 2017 (San Diego) - After winning the season series with USD, Aztecs baseball hosted their last Mountain West opponent of the regular season in Fresno State on Thursday night. Junior Ricky Tyler-Thomas started on the mound for the Bulldogs against senior Dominic Purpura for the Aztecs.

Purpura pitched well, but Aaron Arruda got to him early.  The junior doubled to score senior Jake Stone in the first inning and FSU led 1-0.

In the second, junior Korby Batesole blasted a two-run homer to right to increase the Bulldogs’ lead to 3-0.

Freshman Carter Bins kicked off the sixth with a leadoff solo homer to make the score 4-0 Bulldogs. The Aztecs couldn't get anything going offensively despite their defense buckling down and dropped the first game of the series with the Bulldogs 4-0.

“We ran into a guy that's pretty good on the mound,” head coach Mark Martinez said. “Ricky came in here and he had a plan and he kept us off balance the entire night.”

Game two is tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
