November 10, 2017 (Seattle) - Closing out her collegiate career, Aztec senior Lily Seynaeve led San Diego State cross country at the NCAA West Regionals, hosted by Seattle’s Jefferson Park Golf Course, Friday morning.

“The West Region is one of the best in the country so we had great competition,” Seynaeve said. “Our girls hung on strong as the race went out very fast. Chrissy Calain has a 6K PR by almost a minute and Sakura Roberson, one of our freshmen, fought until the end in her first collegiate cross country race.”

Seynaeve was the Aztecs’ top finisher, clocking in at 21:33.7, just 3.7 seconds off the best 6K of her time as an Aztec to place 94th.

Calain was second for SDSU, her best finish on the team this season, racing to the best 6K of her San Diego State career with a 23:15.5 time for 205th overall.

Cindy Flores (24:08.0, 228th), Renee Phillips (24:09.3, 229th) and, in her first collegiate race, Roberson (29:50.5) rounded out SDSU’s finishers.

San Diego State faced incredibly difficult competition, running alongside opponents from six nationally-ranked programs in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I National Coaches’ Poll. No. 4 San Francisco won the meet with 59 points, followed by No. 7 Stanford (76), No. 3 Oregon (92), No. 10 Boise State (104) and No. 26 California (183). San Francisco’s Charlotte Taylor won the race with a 19:14.2 time.

Said Seynaeve of the final cross country race of her career, “I wanted a bit more from today but I left happy and eager for the start of track season.”
