Aztecs’ Steele garners accolade on offense; Brown named top rookie (both pictured)

February 19, 2018 (San Diego) - The San Diego State lacrosse team picked up two Mountain Pacific Sports Federation awards on Monday as junior Harlowe Steele collected her second straight Offensive Player of the Week honor, while freshman Bailey Brown was named Rookie of the Week in a league office release.
Steele scored a career-high five goals in the Aztecs’ 14-13 victory over Arizona in the team’s home opener on Feb. 17. The SDSU midfielder notched four of her tallies in the second half, including the game-tying strike with 3:26 remaining. In addition, the Coquitlam, British Columbia, product finished with a .833 shot-on-goal percentage (5-6) against the Sun Devils, converting her lone free-position attempt at the 17:26 mark of the second half. She also came through with three draw controls and collected two ground balls to garner her third career weekly conference accolade.
For the season, Steele leads the Scarlet and Black with 10 points on nine goals and one assist to go with a team-best .818 shot-on-goal percentage (9-11), including a 3-for-3 clip on free-position attempts. She has also chipped in four draw controls and three ground balls.
Brown, meanwhile, received her first career MPSF weekly certificate after contributing four draw controls and two ground balls in her second collegiate appearance off the bench last Saturday. The Katy, Texas, native also caused one turnover on the afternoon, helping the Aztecs to their first 2-0 start since 2014.
A midfielder, Brown has racked up six draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover this year.
San Diego State hits the road for a pair of games this weekend when it travels to the front range of the Rocky Mountains to battle No. 21 Denver (Feb. 23) and 20th-ranked Colorado (Feb. 25).
