April 28, 2018 (Tucson) - The San Diego State Track & Field team wrapped up their regular outdoor season by rewriting the record book Saturday evening at the Desert Heat Classic at the University of Arizona. Senior standout Ashley Henderson set a new school record in the 100 meter dash, finishing in 10.98 seconds.

“It feels amazing!” Henderson said after her record-breaking performance. “I knew I could do it. I’m extremely proud of myself and grateful for coach [Shelia Burrell].”

Henderson set a facility record at Arizona’s Roy P. Drachman Stadium and became the first Aztec to break the 11 second barrier, eclipsing her own school record of 11.01 set last year.

Henderson also ran the anchor leg in the 4x100 relay, helping the Aztecs finish in 43.46 seconds, the second best time in school history. Rochene Smith, Simone Glenn, Jalyn Harris and Henderson were just 0.47 seconds off the school record set in 2017. Smith, Glenn and Henderson were part of that relay team as well, joined by Micha Auzenne.

Glenn also entered her name in the record book in the 100 meter dash, finishing in 11.51 for a personal best time and the eighth best time in school history.

Lisa-Anne Barrow continued her incredible junior campaign by running the 400 meter dash in 52.71, good for the third best time in program history. Tyra Lea, Jalyn Harris and Lakin Hatcher also broke the 55 second mark in the 400 with Lea and Hatcher setting new collegiate bests.

Those four Aztecs also teamed up to run the 4x400 relay in 3:44.11, the third best time in school history.

The Aztecs also rewrote the record book in a distance event. Cassidy Towner, competing at the Steve Scott Invitational at UC Irvine, beat her previous best time by over five seconds in the 1,500 meter run. She finished in 4:32.74 to enter her name in to the SDSU top ten (No. 9).

Other top three finishes for the Aztecs include: Je’Neal Ainsworth (3rd in the triple jump; 40’ 0.75”), Hannah Taylor (3rd in the high jump; 5’ 4.5”) and Marissa Berry (3rd in the pole vault; 12’ 6.75”).

THE NOTE I

Cassidy Towner’s time of 4:32.74 broke into the top-ten all-time at SDSU, becoming the first Aztec to do that in over a decade.

THE NOTE II

Three current Aztecs (Ashley Henderson, Simone Glenn and Rochene Smith) all are in the top ten all-time at SDSU for the 100 meter dash. That trio along with freshman Jalyn Harris ran the second fastest 4x100 relay in school history.
