December 15, 2022 (San Diego) - Head coach Shelia Burrell has released the San Diego State track and field schedule for the 2023 indoor and outdoor season. The Aztecs will compete in three indoor meets before beginning their postseason competitions at the Mountain West Indoor Championships and NCAA Indoor Championships.

The Aztecs begin the indoor season January 27-28 at the UW Invitational in Seattle, Washington. Following their appearance in Seattle, the team will return to the Pacific Northwest to compete in the WSU Open and Combined Events Meet in Spokane, Washington February 2-4.

After competing at UNM Don Kirby Invitational on February 10-11, the Aztecs will compete in the postseason at the Mountain West Indoor Championships on February 23-25 and NCAA Indoor Championships on March 10-11, both hosted in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

To begin the outdoor season, SDSU will compete in the Ben Brown Invitational/Distance Carnival at Cal State Fullerton.

The Aztec pole vaulters and jumpers will travel crosstown to the Point Loma Invitational on March 18 before returning home to host their annual Aztec Invitational March 23-25, the only home meet of the 2023 campaign.

“The Aztec Invitational will be one of our strongest home meets in recent years.  We have a large contingent of Pac-12 teams coming and five of our Mountain West teams committed so far,” said head coach Shelia Burrell.

The distance squad will travel to Palo Alto, Calif. to compete at the Stanford Invitational March 31-April 1.

The Aztec throwers will compete at UC San Diego’s Triton Invitational April 7-8 while the rest of the team competes in USC’s Trojan Invitational.

SDSU’s squad will split the weekend of April 12-15 between the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif. and the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific for the 13-15.

The season continues with the team’s return to the Penn Relays April 27-29 while members of the team will also compete at the UC Irvine’s Steve Scott Invitational April 28-29.

SDSU will close out the regular season with distance runners at the Oxy Invitational on May 6.

The Mountain West Outdoor Championships will once again take place in Fresno, Calif. May 11-13.

Those that qualify for the NCAA West Prelims will be competing in Sacramento, Calif. May 24-27 and the NCAA Championships will be June 7-10 in Austin, Texas.

“We are looking forward to the upcoming year and returning to the legendary Penn Relays in 2023.  The team is strong and motivated to put our best efforts into winning another conference championship,” said head coach Shelia Burrell.

The Aztecs took home the Mountain West Championship in 2022, their second consecutive championship and four out of the last five titles.
