Karli Canale netted six goals, including five in the second game

February 20, 2021 (San Diego) - The No. 17 Aztec water polo team (0-6) was swept in a doubleheader against No. 4 UC Irvine (4-1) Saturday afternoon at the Aztec Aquaplex, falling to the Anteaters 14-6 in the first game and then 9-6 in the second.
Karli Canale highlighted the day for the Aztecs by scoring six goals total, including five in the second game.
Game One
The Anteaters scored the game’s first three goals, and though SDSU scored the next two, UCI responded with five unanswered goals to extend their lead to 8-3 at halftime.
The No. 17 Aztecs allowed four Anteater goals in each of the first three quarters and allowed UCI to shoot 46.7 percent. SDSU had a shooting percentage of 26.1 and were 2-for-8 in power play opportunities.
Jessica Leckich led SDSU with two goals while four other Aztecs found the back of the net once.
Santana High alum Zoe Morgan collected seven saves in the net and had a save percentage of 33.3.
Game Two
The Aztec defense was better in the second half of the doubleheader, holding the potent Anteaters to 9-for-29 shooting, although SDSU was just 1-for-8 on power plays.
Like the first game, SDSU found themselves in a 3-0 hole early and ended up trailing 7-2 after two quarters.
The Aztecs won the third quarter 3-1 with Canale netting all three goals. She finished with five goals on 10 attempts, the only Aztec to attempt more than two shots.
Zoe Morgan went the distance again and had six saves.
