Aztecs wrap weekend with a loss in Moraga

February 12, 2017 (Moraga, Calif.) - Aztec women’s tennis faced its third straight loss as it was edged out by the Saint Mary’s Gaels, 5-2, this afternoon at the Korth Tennis Complex in Moraga, Calif.

The Gaels got off to a fast start, claiming two of three doubles matches and the sole doubles point. SDSU duo Kennedy Davis and Paola Diaz were quickly defeated by Saint Mary’s Kareena Manji and Jana McCord, 6-0. Jana Buth and Marina Colvee fell shortly after to Danielle McIntyre and Emma Critser, 6-2.

In singles play, St. Mary’s Parminder Kaur shut out Colvee, 6-0, 6-0. Olivia Larsson was also unsuccessful in her match, falling to Crister in the No. 5 spot. Diaz put in good effort against McIntyre, but fell short at 6-2, 6-3, and the Gaels grabbed the win on the day. The last three matches finished up shortly after, as Mia Smith was unable to move past Manji, 6-0, 7-5. The Aztecs rallied back in the last two matches when Davis took her opponent, Clementine Clement, into three sets and pulled off a win, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8. Buth followed suit in the top seed, taking down McCord in a close battle, 7-5, 7-6(3).

Following a tough weekend, SDSU now sits at 3-5 on the season. The Aztecs will look to end the losing skid at home on Friday, Feb. 17, against Long Beach State. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
