April 1, 2017 (Honolulu) - T-No. 12 San Diego State came up short in its final game at the Hawai’i Invitational, losing to the hosts, 13-4, Saturday afternoon at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Center. The loss dropped the Aztecs to 13-12 on the season, while the Rainbow Wahine improve to 12-10.

SDSU allowed the first two goals of the game and played catch-up the rest of the afternoon. Facing a 2-0 hole with four minutes left in the first quarter, the Aztecs dented the scoreboard when Caroline Israels found the back of the net after nearly five minutes had passed.

The 2-1 deficit entering the second period was manageable for SDSU, but it eventually swelled to five goals after Hawai’i scored four times. At the halftime horn, the Rainbow Wahine led the Aztecs, 6-1.

San Diego State mounted a brief comeback after receiving goals from Israels and Paola Vizcarra to make it a 6-3 UH lead with less than three minutes left in the third quarter. The Rainbow Wahine, however, logged three goals in the final 2:33 to carry a 9-3 advantage into the fourth period.

Hawai’i increased its lead to 12-3 when it scored the first three goals of the frame. The Aztecs stopped the 6-0 UH run with 4:14 left after Delaney Parks found the back of the net. The Rainbow Wahine closed the afternoon with one more goal to provide the nine-goal margin.

SDSU, undefeated in four tries in the Golden Coast Conference, will be action on Friday, April 7 when it plays host to Pacific, which is 3-0 in league play, at Aztec Aquaplex. Game time vs. the preseason GCC favorites is set for 4 p.m. PT and admission is free.
